Travel restrictions and a growing pandemic isn’t stopping Eton College from connecting with over 200 education agents from around the world at the recent MSM Live! Agent e-Summit.
On the 7th and 8th of April, Eton College held a virtual conference, where Kalai Ponniah, Campus Director and newly-appointed Vice President for Educational Services at Eton College, talked about exciting prospects for international students at Eton amid the current coronavirus situation.
Taking Classes Online
In the webinar, Ponniah discussed the quick response and solutions that Eton has taken in response to the COVID-19 situation. Despite closing campus, the institution continued to assist the students by shifting all their courses online. This is merely the first step in their ongoing project of providing virtual classes not only to address the current situation, but as part of an alternative option for future students.
Currently, classes are being held via Zoom meetings, but Ponniah revealed that ongoing actions are done to create a formal e-learning option that is “more interactive and simulative.” This is expected to be launched in the next two to three months.
When asked about IELTS requirements and considerations, he added that the institution will launch its own English placement test in a secure website. Previously, it was only available to local and domestic students, but they have now made it available for international students. This serves as an alternative solution to students who did not meet the college English requirements.
However, Ponniah noted that students will still need to take their IELTS for their initial application.
Expanded Program Offerings
Ponniah also gave agents a sneak peek of future developments in the institution, namely the creation of additional programs. Eton College is in the process of releasing new healthcare programs, currently in the approval stage. These new offerings are expected to be launched within the year.
Ponniah also considered IT and Nursing courses a likely possibility, assuring agents that these new fields are being considered for teaching at the college. Agents and potential students can look forward to a diversity of new programs to serve them more.
