The Role

MSM is recruiting for an Executive Director, Government Relations to join the team. This position reports to the CEO. Executive Director, Government Relations will be responsible for the management and execution of M Square Media (MSM) Government Relations strategy. The successful candidate will ensure the development and maintenance of strong relationships with government stakeholders in the core jurisdictions where MSM operated to support MSM’s operations and future growth.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive government relations strategy for MSM based on a sound understanding of the company’s business issues and priorities;
  • Advocate on behalf of MSM on select business issues through involvement in Education industry and governmental committees;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with government officials (elected and non-elected) and key public affairs influencers to enhance awareness, understanding and engagement in MSM projects through the development and execution of coordinated public affairs and issue management plan;
  • Monitor government agendas and activities and identify risks, opportunities and issues relevant to MSM’s goals and objectives;
  • With input and support from internal functional groups, develop and implement advocacy and engagement strategies to support and enhance awareness of MSM’s projects and their value and alignment with government and public stakeholders;
  • Represent MSM at community, trade and government events as required; and
  • Represent MSM on key industry, government and stakeholder committees or working groups.

  • Manage applications and reporting for grants
  • Expand internal and external relationships
  • Coordinate with key partners and shareholders
  • Create exemplary grant proposals, applications, and pertinent documents
  • Collaborate with business teams to collect essential data
  • Handle all proposal submissions and subsequent requirements
  • Submit progress reports for all ongoing projects
  • Create and implement schedules and strategies for annual grants and grant applications

 

Who We’re Looking For:

  • At least 15 years of experience in an external government relations role with demonstrated experience working with Canadian federal and provincial government officials/agencies as well as trade associations;
  • Knowledge and involvement in the US political landscape in a variety of states and federally is an asset;
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business or communications;
  • International Education industry knowledge is essential;
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with both staff and external resources;
  • Understanding of the legal and regulatory framework and reporting obligations for Canadian public companies;
  • Experience in advising senior management on government relations strategy;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a proficiency in public speaking;
  • Proven team player with strong listening skills and ability to work across teams and functions to achieve business results;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel.
