Hospitality Instructor

Reporting relationship: This position reports to the Campus Director

 

Evaluation: All staff members receive performance evaluations on a regular basis. The evaluations will be conducted by the immediate supervisor.

 

Education, Experience, Skills and abilities:

Required:

  • Academic credentials: Hospitality and/or Tourism Diploma from a recognized institution, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred
  • Designation: AH&LA or equivalent
  • Teaching experience: Adult teaching and/or training experience – Minimum 2 years
  • Industry experience: Applied experience related to the course/program taught – Minimum 2 years (10 years if a Diploma)
  • Technology: Computer literacy, including Hospitality Technology

 

Summary of responsibilities:

The instructor is responsible for applying his/her expertise in planning, developing and delivering courses/programs that will ensure students have the opportunities to learn and reach their academic goals. The instructor is also expected to participate in departmental meetings and activities, support the general development of students at the College, and assist the College in providing students with a superior learning environment.

 

Working conditions:

The Instructor must be in attendance at the College for the total hours agreed upon in their Offer of Employment. If the instructor needs to be absent (e.g. illness), s/he must report the absence to the Education Coordinator as soon as possible, prior to the absence.

 

Specific duties:

  • Provide orientation for students
  • Prepare and implement dacum, lesson plans, and course outlines as necessary
  • Prepare for, and instruct courses in the Hospitality Management Diploma Program
  • Manage, Update, Organize reference and resource materials
  • Liaison between Eton College Canada and American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA)
  • Use appropriate motivational teaching methods such as lectures, group work, projects, field trips, guest speakers, and a variety of teaching tools
  • Ensure the curriculum for the Hospitality Management Diploma Program at Eton College is industry-validated, high quality, current, and taught at a level where students have a fair and achievable opportunity to complete the training successfully
  • Share best practices in education with staff and faculty
  • Liaise with all program-related stakeholders
  • Manage the discipline in your classroom as per the Student Handbook
  • Develop and administer relevant instruments to evaluate student learning such as assignments, tests, quizzes, and exams
  • Ensure the integrity of all instructional materials that you use
  • Discuss all curriculum concerns and revisions with the Education Coordinator; make suggestions for improvements
  • Enter student marks and attendance data in College records
  • Ensure the administration of Program Content and Delivery Evaluation to students
  • Schedule office hours to be available for student assistance
  • Provide support, assistance and guidance to students wherever necessary
  • Refer students to the Education Coordinator and/or Student Services Coordinator to address specific student learning or personal issues
  • On a regular basis, participate in curriculum review, updates, PTIB annual reports
  • Participate in Departmental meetings and College activities
  • Enroll in approved professional development activities; attend and contribute to Professional Development activities organized by the College
  • Participate in graduation and open houses
  • Keep classroom area and instructor’s office clean and tidy; ensure the environment is conducive to learning
  • Serve as an ambassador for the College
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all time, and a spirit of team work.
