(October 2021) International education provider M Square Media (MSM) has appointed Victoria Heron, an 18-year veteran in the public and private sectors of international student recruitment, as the Executive Director of its Australia and New Zealand operations.
Victoria’s career began in Canada, where she led the marketing and international student recruitment for pathway provider Navitas and its two Canadian pathway colleges at Simon Fraser University and University of Manitoba. After a number of years, she returned to her homeland, Australia, and joined Deakin University, where she directed the operations and growth of its global student mobility program and international partner engagement. She was next appointed general manager for Australia and NZ at Kaplan International Languages, overseeing six English language schools.
She specialises in global marketing and recruitment, strategic planning and stakeholder management, student mobility, English language and executive management and operations.
Sanjay Laul, CEO and founder at MSM, said: “Victoria’s demonstrated leadership at both strategic and operational levels will help expand our presence in Australia and NZ, two major study destinations with their unique needs and practices in marketing, business development, and outreach to the world’s students. These markets are key to our ever-expanding global footprint, whether in serving as the in-country office of universities, creating pathways, or being part of the flourishing intl ed ecosystem.”
Victoria looks forward to developing partnerships across Australia and NZ with universities and vocational institutions to support not just recruitment but also their offshore presence and visibility and transnational education initiatives. “More importantly, I’m looking forward to supporting and contributing to the recovery of the sector and welcoming students back,” she said.
She cites the reopening of the two countries to international students as the most pressing issues of the sector in Australia and NZ in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet there is “a lot of renewed optimism and belief” in the sector as the two countries continue to provide quality education experiences to international students, she added.
“Their climates, multicultural warmth, environments and people have not changed. All the reasons students chose Australia and New Zealand before COVID are still there and ready to welcome them again. Our message to them is: ‘You are welcome,’” Victoria said.
