Primarily, one should be reminded of the difference between a labor shortage and a skills gap crisis. The two vastly differ from each other but are sometimes treated as one and the same. The former accounts for when there are not enough workers for job demands. The latter accounts for when, while there may be a lack or surplus of available workers, they might not have the skills needed by the employer.
The Canadian workforce, presumably along with millions of others all over the world, underwent a collective rattling in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some industry experts have dubbed it “The Great Resignation,” a term inspired by the economic events that started in the United States in the late 1920s leading to the 1930s.

Canada-based Nipissing University and international education service company M Square Media (MSM) conducted an “Agent Networking Summit 2022” in Kathmandu, Nepal on May 5, 2022. More than 80 participants composed of international education stakeholders and agents participated in the event held at Radisson Hotel Kathmandu.

In the United States, the number of international students plummeted from its 2019 highs of 1,095,299 to lows of 914,095 in 2020. The last time these numbers were visited and subsequently broken the year after was in 2013 when there were a reported 886,052 international students in the U.S.

In the recently published 2022 Cyber Security Breaches Survey, an alarming 92 percent of higher education institutions reported breaches or attacks in the past 12 months. This isn’t an isolated case. Even in 2020, the education sector experienced a total of 819 data breaches, according to Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report. Of this number, 228 have confirmed disclosure of private data.
