Visa applications and border controls are also adjusted to welcome the refugees who seek temporary shelter while the humanitarian crisis continues.
After Dayslong Journey, International Students Finally Escape Ukraine: ‘It Felt Like a Miracle’
An estimated 700 international students from India, 400 from Nigeria, and others from Turkey and South Africa found their way home after many days of travel by bus, train, and plane throughout Ukraine and across borders. Students turned to social media to plead for help, using the hashtag “SaveSumyStudents,” but limited access to electricity made calling attention to their plight difficult. With the help from the Indian embassy and Sumy State University, buses arrived for the students to ride that would get them to the train station for Poland. The Nigerian government also helped their citizens by securing their transportation to take them to Nigeria.
US, Netherlands Universities Woo Mumbai Students With Multiple Course Options
Public and private universities from countries such as the US, Netherlands organized an international study fair for Indian students who wished to study abroad at Courtyard by Marriott in the city. With India being one of the biggest markets for international students, the universities present in the fair pitched the specialty of their programs, environment, benefits and much more to individuals who were interested in knowing more about what each university offered to them. Students from a wide range of educational backgrounds were present to get an idea of how pursuing education abroad would look like for them.
Minister Says Universities in Ireland Will Offer Places to Irish Students Who Had To Leave UkraineMinister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science in Ireland Simon Harris said that the country’s universities are willing to help students who have had to leave Ukraine in the middle of their studies by offering them admission. The Irish Universities Association established a working group with the deans of medicine, the Medical Council, the department, and admissions officers to ensure that Irish students who fled from Ukraine “can continue their education and integrate the relevant program at the right level.” In addition to students, Harris said that the government will ensure that Ukrainian people can continue higher education in Ireland too.
New Zealand To Remove Pandemic Mandates As Omicron Wanes
New Zealand will remove many of its COVID-19 pandemic mandates over the next two weeks as an omicron outbreak begins to wane. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Wednesday that people will no longer need to be vaccinated to visit places like retail stores, restaurants and bars from April 4. They will also not be required to scan QR barcodes at those venues. A vaccine mandate will be scrapped for some workers — including teachers, police officers and waiters — though it will continue for health care and aged-care workers, border workers and corrections officers.

The European Member States had offered their support to Ukrainian refugees by harboring millions of them, providing work vacancies, and assisting them to resume their studies. Some European institutions are offering support through consultations, vacancies, and mental health assistance, while the rest vowed to enroll students, lower tuition fees, or abolish them all throughout.
EU Urged to Provide More Support for Researchers Fleeing Ukraine
March started with the European Union activating its Temporary Protection Directive, granting refugees the freedom to work immediately, as well as the provision of support to Ukrainian researchers and students.
