Countries Now Reaching Pre-Pandemic Enrollment Levels; U.S. Issues Record 82,000 Student Visas in India

The Institute of International Education (IIE) noted in a report that after experiencing significantly fewer new international student enrollments in 2020 and 2021, U.S. universities had an uptick in applications for admission. For the academic year 2022–2023, 65% of the 559 institutions saw an increase in the number of applications from overseas students across all institutional categories.

In 2015, applications for student visas from India were almost the same in number as those from China. Seven years later, between January and June, approximately half of all student permit applications were from India. According to analysts, specific events have recently triggered a sharp increase in the number of students coming from India.

Ireland has again proven that it is one of the favorite destinations for international studies in Europe. Recent statistics from the Higher Education Authority (HEA) have shown that the number of global learners in the country has returned to pre-pandemic levels. The HEA has revealed that, in the school year 2021/2022, 20.6% of students are enrolled in business, administration, and law; 17.5% in health and welfare; 13.9% in arts and humanities; and 11.7% in engineering, manufacturing, and construction courses.

Aspiring global learners from India are on an upward trajectory as the United States of America had already issued a record 82,000 student visas this year. This is about 20,000 more than last year’s record of 62,000 issued student visas. As one of the favorite destinations for Indian foreign students, the US has welcomed over 12% more Indian students in 2021.

Plans to diversify New Zealand’s international education sector have been rebooted now that borders are open again. According to Education NZ Asia regional director Ben Burrowes, diversification will enable local students to learn alongside young minds of different nationalities, cultures, and religions. India and China have been the top sources of inbound global learners in NZ.

The U.S. News & World Report has released its latest college rankings. These new rankings have an updated SAT/ACT calculation, a more thorough measure of faculty resources, and revised categories. U.S. News has been ranking higher education institutions based on academic quality and an emphasis on a variety of rates, such as graduation and retention rates.

Nova Scotia is putting its best foot forward as it launches a pilot program to help international student graduates get the information and coaching they need to immigrate to the Canadian province. The program is called the Post-Graduation Immigration Support Pilot (PGISP) program.

International students from Malaysia are now actively pursuing their international education aspirations as the COVID-19 situation in the country is slowly getting under control. Malaysian international students are currently looking at Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand as primary study destinations.

The Ministry of Education (MOE), after obtaining the approval of the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), issued a directive on Tuesday to tertiary education institutions nationwide, saying that foreign students holding valid residence cards or arriving under special programs would be eligible for extra entry slots should the weekly cap be already reached on the week they arrive.

To reduce the shortage of student housing in the Netherlands, the Dutch government has introduced the National Student Housing Action Plan 2022-2030, which will offer an expansion of 60,000 affordable student housing for the next eight years. According to a press release by the central government, this initiative intends to offer accommodation to address the influx of international students reaching the Netherlands.

Yucatecan students from state higher education institutions continue to learn and increase their level of English abroad. This is part of the 2023 International Mobility Program to Canada and the United States, which aims to promote the internationalization and strengthening of English proficiency among outstanding students with low economic resources.
