Are You Planning to Study in Australia? Here’s How to Apply for a Student Visa

Are You Planning to Study in Australia

Australia is renowned as an international study destination due to its high-quality education system, inclusive and safe environment, strong economy with ample job opportunities, and a range of visa options for international students. The country’s welcoming culture, beautiful landscapes, and location as a gateway to Asia and the Pacific also make it an attractive destination for students looking to gain a global perspective and enrich their education.

Because of these, many students from overseas are aiming to study at an Australian university. Just like in any study destination, to pursue higher education in a university in Australia, there is a need for international students to have a student visa and there are requirements they need to fulfill when obtaining one.

For a visa application to be processed, one must have a Confirmation of Enrolment or an Acceptance Letter from an internationally recognized university.

Student Visa Application

Student Visa Application

As mentioned earlier, Australia is a preferred destination for international education due to its better opportunities and options for a student either for further studies or jobs. To make this happen, students are required to apply for a Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485.

This visa type enables international students to live, study and work after they have finished their studies. For an individual to be eligible for the Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485, they must be below 50 years old, hold an eligible visa, have held a student visa during the past six months, have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course, select only one stream. This means that it is not possible to change visa streams after the application.

Lastly, a student should attach specified evidence when applying for the said visa type. Essentially, a student visa allows a student to study in Australia for five years. This also allows their family members and dependent child or relative to join him to stay in this country.

What You Need to Get a Student Visa

There are eligibility requirements an international student should meet to be able to obtain a student visa. These include the Age Criteria, Certificate of Good Health and Character, Evidence of Enrolment, and Welfare Arrangements, among other things. For the age criteria, for instance, the applicant needs to be at least six years old when applying for a school student visa. Nonetheless, the age criteria vary for higher-class students.

For example, for the ninth year, the applicant must be below 17 years of age. On the 10th year, they must be below 18 years old, and on the 11th year, they must be below 19 years of age. Lastly, in the 12th year, they must be younger than 20 years old.

For the Certificate of Good Health and Character, the applicant should obtain a certificate of good health. More so, they need to sign an Australian value statement guaranteeing the government that they would follow Australia’s rules and laws.

Other requirements like evidence of enrolment where students cannot apply for a student visa if they do not hold it; welfare arrangements which are made when a student is below 18 years of age and needs to stay in Australia with a Student Visa 500; English Proficiency Certificate which is required for one to prove his English language competency.

Lastly, an applicant needs to have health insurance coverage provided by a government-approved health insurance agency.
