Is Australia’s International Student Sector on the Road to Recovery?

International students coming to Australia are not catching up to their pre-pandemic levels. The Department of Education, Skills, and Employment (DESE) said that there were 440,129 international students enrolled in the first quarter of 2022, a decrease of 15 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021. The reasonas per Ravi Lochan Singh, the president of the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI)is that the first intake of 2022 was composed of students who had visas, were studying online, and were not able to travel due to COVID-19 restrictions. More incoming international students are expected to arrive in the coming months as the country’s visa processing time is foreseen to increase greatly, and some students have to wait for three months for a student visa.
