Many study destinations are opening up visa slots to accommodate more international students while others are trying to ramp up efforts to recruit more foreign learners. Amid the challenges and opportunities, it’s all systems go for international education as government agencies and educational institutions gear up for an exciting year ahead.
The US embassy and consulates in India will start conducting interviews for student visas in the middle of November, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs, US Embassy Don Heflin confirmed. The United States will also open 100,000 spots over the coming weeks, for those seeking H and L worker visas, specifically drop box situations.
To entice more potential international post-secondary students to Alberta colleges, the provincial government is investing $1.5 million in the establishment of what they call the Alberta Bureau of International Education. The investment is part of the provincial government’s international education policy, which was presented in June 2020.
France is getting the attention of international students from India. With France being listed on foreign employer websites and the international student-friendly public systems, France is determined to welcome more international students, especially from India.
Jamie Arrowsmith, Acting Director, Universities UK International (UUKi), and Andrew Bird, Vice-Chair, The British Universities’ International Liaison Association (BUILA), shared that the universities in the UK are gearing up to welcome a record number of international students. And as part of this preparation, the varsities are working closely with students as well as the housing sector to ensure that students find appropriate housing.
GREAT’s ‘Study UK’ campaign is set to generate £407 million of investment right across the UK, from international students registered in 2021/22. The campaign, carried out in collaboration with the British Council, highlights factors that make the UK a top choice for studying abroad by emphasizing the quality and opportunities of UK higher education to students all over the world.
Germany will be opening student visa appointment slots for Indian students wishing to study at the country’s universities as of November 1 this year, German Missions in India has announced. In addition, they said that Indian students aiming to enroll at higher education institutions in Germany should have their academic records assessed by the Academic Evaluation Center (APS) and receive their APS certificate before submitting their visa application.
Researching the right program is just one piece of the puzzle. It is also important to build other components of the application such as acquiring your master’s transcripts from the home country’s university, soliciting relevant letters of recommendation, developing a statement of purpose, and more.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in a 2-1 decision said a program most recently updated in 2016 allowing international students to work in their field of study for up to three years was within the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) authority to set the conditions of immigrants’ stay in the country.
Russ Ganim, associate provost and dean of international programs at the University of Iowa, said that to make study abroad more affordable, colleges must make it a fundraising priority. Up to ten $1,000 diversity ambassador scholarships are awarded for the fall and spring semesters, and winter and summer sessions to various groups of students.
New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 made a significant change in the education arena when it paved the way for international institutions to establish campuses in India. International Branch Campuses (IBCs) exemplify the notion of global education and provide a platform for innovation.
In Malaysia, the commitment and cooperation of strategic partners from various ministries can help the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) achieve its target of 250,000 international student enrolments in local universities by 2025. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said planning, formulation of policies, and determining effective strategies involving ministries should go hand in hand so that all initiatives can be implemented and be on the right track.
Barriers such as cost, family concerns, limited course flexibility, and lack of knowledge about available experiences prevent many students from going abroad for college. Hence, many colleges and nonprofit organizations are looking to make overseas study programs more accessible by offering scholarship options, differing curricula, and passport assistance.
Whitworth University is a private Christian university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and located in Spokane, Washington. They offer over 100 undergraduate majors and programs, six graduate programs, two doctoral programs, and seven adult bachelors degree completion programs.

Sustainable Business Practices Post-Degree Studies enhance the students’ existing education with the knowledge they need to get a job at a sustainability-focused business. They will also learn to apply sustainable business practices at their current job. Students will also be able to be more kind to the environment which can benefit everyone.
The certificate is awarded on successful completion of the coursework in the Sustainable Business Practices program, a total of 30 credits. Meanwhile, the diploma is awarded on successful completion of the coursework in the program, a total of 60 credits.
