As the pandemic challenges in Canada’s tourism and hospitality sector persist, industry advocates look to international students as a solution to the staff shortage crisis.
Businesses turned to international graduates and students to supplement their labour force needs as the industry lost thousands of workers due to unstable operations and numerous restrictions. According to Destination Canada, the tourism sector was forced to lay off approximately 900,000 workers, or 43 percent of its workforce in 2020.
Tourism Minister Randy Boissonnault stated that the sector has already taken steps to ensure that it has the workers it needs and it is connecting well with international students and new immigrants to preserve the sector.
As an international education company, MSM welcomes this development that creates opportunities for international students to pursue rewarding careers.
